Parenting Classes

Parenting classes are an investment in the parent's own personal growth, the child's future, and for future generations. Considering this helps a parent doing his/her part in making this world a better place for his or her child, thus helping other children and parents to benefit from it as well.

Children are facing issues previous generations never had to face. It is important for parents to listen and communicate in open and respectful ways, so as to allow their children to feel safe while discussing their problems and feelings.

Attending a parenting class is not a reflection of being a "bad" parent!  It is just an indication of a parent's commitment to his/her children and role as a parent. The classes are not just for parents who are having severe problems with their children's behavior. Many parents who attend classes want to feel more confident of their parenting and are looking for ways to prevent future problems and help their family get along as one.

After a survey across the island, the government has been inspired to implement parent schooling all across the island with immediate effect. It has thought about a series of advantages that parent schooling will offer to the society as a whole, and is convinced that a few results will be immediate and basically be helpful  to parents on a long run.

The government does not want to focus on what parents are doing wrong or advocate never disciplining children, as many parents assume but to provide new options to parents and encourages them to respect their own rights, as well as their children's. The govt has made all efforts to recruit trained, richly experienced and the bets tutors for this delicate task and  has worked on a structure that will cover essential areas in parent schooling.

The schooling has something for every parent. It was more targeted towards parents who lived in rural and sub-urban areas. The classes were essentially being held at 6.30 pm - 8.00.pm to obtain a higher audience. However a notable number of absentees were to be deplored. Parents who were present were highly satisfied and learned a lot in parenting techniques and guidelines in effective relationships. Those who could not attend missed out on what could be life-changing inputs. The tutors themselves gathered quite a lot knowledge while on duty.

All in all, the government has  proclaimed the initiative as a success and it wishes to move into the urban areas next.

Public Voice

This blog is for parents and has information and advice about family relationship issues.Throughout my communication course and my own experience in life, I have drawn out a conclusion that communication plays a major role into our daily lives be it with friends, workers, teachers or family. Today I find it vital for parents to communicate efficiently with their kids on a regularly basis before it gets too late.

Managing Conflict


Conflict can occur when opposing points of view come head to head.  Although conflict is a normal part in relationships it can either escalates and becomes destructive or can be solved among partners if handled well.


At this point in relationships, it is the children who suffer the most.   Divorce and separation introduces dramatic changes in the lives' of children.


Impact of divorce on children


First of all, divorce is always stressful for children.  Most children do not want their parents to separate.  Divorce can also strain parent-children relationships, leading to lost of contact with one parent, creating economic hardships and increasing conflicts between parents.

It also increases the risk that children will suffer from psychological and behavioural problems.  Troubled children are particularly likely to develop problems with anger, disobedience and rule violations.  School achievement also can suffer.  other children become sad for prolonged periods of time.  They may become depressed, anxious, or become perhaps overly responsible kids who end up caring for their parents.

Hardships, Stress and Ongoing worries


Hence it becomes a difficult situation for the parents to tackle with their children.

"The basic challenge is that parents very often speak without understanding how their children receive the message," says Michael Thompson, PH.D., co-author of Raising Cain.

Talking and listening to children does lots of important things. It improves your bond with them, and encourages them to listen to you. It helps them to form relationships and to build self-esteem. 


Children need constant assistance in learning how to identify, express and manage their feelings, needs and ideas in an appropriate way.


Talking can help your children deal with the difficult emotions and fears that she might be feeling.  Whenever your child is ready to talk, actively listening to her thoughts about the situation can help you work out how best to comfort her.


If a child might find it difficult to talk to you about the separation, he might be able to talk to another trusted grown-up.


Your child can learn from the way you and your partner manage the challenges of the separation.  If you can manage it well, she can learn good lessons about solving problems and sorting out conflict.  These are great life skills that can boost her self-esteem and resilience.

Personal Narrative

As part of my Internet assignment, I want to use this blog to pass on a key message to parents of today.  The photograph I have used as my visual representation in my previous post means a lot to me.  I had spent wonderful moments with the child and had created a strong bonding between us. I loved to spend my free time with her forgetting the outer world full of responsibilities, stress and work.  I also liked to teach her new and good things in life as if I am bringing up my own child.  I could see her as a little daughter or sister to me to whom I was ready to give all my love and attention.  She was very cute and innocent but always had a sad look on her face. She would come running to me as soon as I would call out her name and hug me tight and kiss me.   Sometimes she would just fall asleep in my arms while I would narrate her a little story and would always refuse to sleep on the mattress pulling my sleeves tightly.  This child badly needed the love of both her parents but unfortunately she could not get it.  Due to her family breakdown, she was separated from her father whom she always claimed to love the most.  Though in the custody of the mother, her father could only see her under the authority of the mother.  There are no words to describe that short moment she would spend with her father.  She always missed him and would always cry a lot while leaving him.  Sometimes she would not even want to return back to her mother.  Her tender mind could not understand why her parents were no more together.  Who could explain a two year old kid what is divorce?  Even I would go speechless every time she would ask me that question. Then I realized to what extent a child could be affected by the separation of their parents.   I pitied her for her situation and really wished I could do something to make her happy but it is beyond my control.   Deeply touched by this incident, I decided to share it on my blog and hence I would like to make a prayer to all parents of today to take the responsibility of solving their marital problems between them and not make their children the victims of their punishment.

This is the photograph I choose to use as my visual representation as it is a perfect representation of my affectionate relationship between me and the child.  I am specially going to focus on relationships between parents and children on my blog and this photograph depicts the strong bonding that I share with the kid.  This is how relationships between adults and children should blossom.  I prefer to keep this photograph in black and white rather than in colour as it adds a personal touch to it and also bring me back to the time where I used to look after her like my own child.
